A Church Without Walls goes out. It is not defined primarily by what it does inside its walls, but by what it does outside its walls. This is consistent with Jesus' great command: "Go, and make disciples..." (Matthew 28:19). Christ calls us to move out and penetrate the community. To be salt and light. To get beyond ourselves and our four walls. To be inclusive.
BridgeWay is committed to being a faith community that builds bridges, not barriers. This means putting our faith in action as we become the hands and feet of Jesus in our community and across the world. BridgeWay has chosen a different emphasis for each quarter of 2010:
First Quarter
BridgeWay continues its commitment to Faith in Action by sending a team of workers to Juarez, Mexico during Spring Break to build a house for the poor. As volunteers do hard manual labor, the love of Christ will be lived and shared.
Second Quarter
Through Project Go!, BridgeWay members will seek out opportunities to serve the community, and then share with the church about the service that was rendered. From April through June, individuals and families will be specifically challenged to reach out and show compassion as the body of Christ.
Third Quarter
BridgeWay members and attenders will again partner with Christian Community Action (CCA) to provide meals for the poor. This special outreach, called Kids Eat Free, will feed children at local apartments who may have little to eat when school is not in session.
Fourth Quarter
Connection Groups at BridgeWay will volunteer for special projects of their choice in our community. The options are many: painting a house for someone in need, working at the CCA Toy Store, feeding the homeless in Denton, serving the needs of a single mom, or visiting with residents of an assisted living center.
Other opportunities
In addition to these projects, BridgeWay offers practical learning opportunities to strengthen homes and families, including:
As Christ-followers, BridgeWay members are asked to commit to the following:
1 Hour of Corporate Worship Every Week
1 Hour of Weekly Participation in a Small Group
1 Ministry in Which You Serve
1 Person with Whom You Share Christ
