Bad News/Good News

Some bad news and some good news.

First, the bad news. Less than half of American churchgoers plan to invite unchurched people to Easter worship service this year, a new survey found. Only one out of three active churchgoers (31 percent) said they would definitely invite someone they know who does not usually attend church to join them for Easter service, according to a Barna Group survey. This, in spite of the fact that the resurrection of Christ is the foundation of Christian faith.

Second, the good news. Many people who don’t go to church will seriously consider an invitation to attend, if given an invitation. Some studies report that about 80% of those who are invited will agree to come to worship on Easter Sunday. You might be surprised to know that some of your friends and neighbors are just waiting for an invitation! Your decision to extend an invitation could make an eternal difference in someone’s life!

So let me encourage you to get the word out—today! Easter is only 18 days away, so now is the time to reach out and invite someone you know. You can invite neighbors, friends, co-workers, fellow-students and others to hear the life-changing message of Christ. Use one of the Easter invitation cards that we passed out on Sunday (you’ll receive more of these cards this Sunday so you can invite more people). Pick up the phone and issue an invitation. Invite someone to our Saturday night service at 5 PM, and maybe invite them to join you for dinner afterward. Or invite them to our 9:30 or 11 AM services on Easter Sunday, and consider going to lunch together. You might take the Easter invitation cards and canvas your entire neighborhood, letting your neighbors know about our Easter schedule.

Easter changes everything! It is impossible to visit the empty tomb and to leave unchanged! Nothing changes lives like the resurrection power of Christ. So take advantage of this rare opportunity to make an impact in the life of someone you care about. You’ll be eternally glad that you did! Don’t be part of the 31% who fail to invite others to hear the transforming message of the risen Christ!
