Be. Set. Free.

This past Sunday, I spoke about how Jesus sets you free from yourself and others, in order to accomplish His purpose through your life. If you missed it, you can check it out on our new BridgeWay Church App (found in the app-store) or our BridgeWayFM YouTube channel. I want to take a moment to dig a little deeper into being set free from yourself!

John 8:44 says in reference to Satan, “When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.” (NIV)

Why does Satan lie to us? John 10:10 tells us that it’s because, “the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.” (NIV)

So Satan lies to us because he wants to STEAL from us.  He wants to steal our joy, our peace, our love, our inheritance from the Father. Many of his lies have completely destroyed people’s lives!  Satan is cunning and so it’s important to take a look at exactly how he operates and what he’s doing.

You see, Satan doesn’t just show up with his red horns and pitchfork to intimidate you and lie to you. No, he’s much more cunning than that. What Satan does, is he comes and whispers into your ear,

·         “I’m not good enough”

·         “I’m worthless”

·         “I’m unlovable”

·         “I’m a complete failure”

Do you see what is he doing? He’s feeding you these ideas, using 1st person language, to make you think that they are your own thoughts. He’s staying in the shadows so that you don’t realize these are actually lies from the Great Deceiver.  Maybe these were words that someone said to you once, and now Satan has seized them to use against you. The point is, you need to understand his strategy. If these words and phrases are filling your head, it’s time to start calling out the one who is really saying these things in order to steal, kill, and destroy you: Satan!

BUT here’s the best part! If we KNOW that Satan is the father of lies, then we can also KNOW that every single one of those thoughts, are LIES as well. Therefore, we can know with absolute certainty, that the exact opposite of those statements is true.

·         “You are good enough” ~ 2 Cor. 12:9

·         “You have great worth” ~ Isaiah 43:4

·         “You are greatly loved” ~ John 3:16

·         “You are God’s great success story” ~ Ephesians 2:13

Thank God for Jesus, who has paid the price for our sins, and sets me free from ME!

So if you are struggling with some of these thoughts, take some time to rest in God and what HE says about you. When a negative thought pops into your head, take it captive (2 Cor. 10:5), and then speak the exact opposite of that statement out loud. Let God begin to renew your mind, to set you free from the chains that Satan wants to enslave you with. Be set free by the power of Jesus’ blood!

Be. Set. Free.
